Professor Klatt held a talk in the hybrid workshop on ‘Freedom and Proportionality’, which took place in Lesbos, Greece.
The workshop was dedicated to discussing philosophical questions regarding the proportionality test and the general right to freedom. The workshop revolved around the two main questions of if the general right to freedom could be balanced, and if proportionality embraces a particular account of the right to freedom.
Focusing on the work of the Greek legal philosopher Stavros Tsakyrakis, the workshop took place in the author's hometown, where the speakers got together, but was also exhibited via zoom, reuniting attendees from several countries.
In his talk, Professor Klatt defended proportionality from the critics that it would lead to an overly individualistic account of freedom and supported that balancing and the general right to freedom can be reconciled with Tsakyrakis’ approach of restricting the scope of rights.
